Across the UK, the number of children and young people seeking support for their emotional health is rising. At the end of November 2023, almost 450,000 children and young people were in contact with children and young people’s mental health services (NHS Digital). This picture of growing demand is no different in Wirral, where stretched services, tight thresholds and long waiting lists can make it difficult for those who need support to get the help they need when they need it.
The Liverpool City Region Civic Data Cooperative is a data governance project funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and hosted by the Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL) at the University of Liverpool. Throughout 2024, we worked in partnership with the CDC to think about how, as a city region, we can unlock the power of data to inform better public service decision-making.

Linacre is a ward within the borough of Sefton in North West England. Within Linacre sits Poets, a group of streets named after famous wordsmiths, an area where 2,200 people live (33% of the total ward population) and where the highest rates of fuel poverty, worklessness and crime in the borough are recorded.
Here at Capacity, we often have the chance to work with some incredible organisations, making real change for local people. Local Solutions are just one of the organisations that we had the opportunity to work with last year. Providing support to individuals, families and communities experiencing disadvantage, exclusion and vulnerability across the Liverpool City Region and Wales, Local Solutions have recently celebrated their 50th anniversary and have touched the lives of countless people.
