We like to start with the basics. So, can you tell us about how you came to join the Capacity team?
I joined the team in September 2023, and the last 18 months or so have flown by! Before joining Capacity, I’d worked in SEND teams in local authorities since 2014. Most recently, in Birmingham, but before that in Sefton, Liverpool and Suffolk.
What are you most looking forward to in your role?
We’ve got loads of really exciting work going on at the moment. I think the thing I’m most looking forward to is joining things up regionally across a couple of different projects.
Okay, now for some rapid-fire questions. What three words best describe you?
Taken from a dear friend – thoughtful, funny and open.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Enjoy life, it’s not going to happen again. This is from my dad, who likes to pretend he’s wiser than he is, but I think this is pretty wise.
What inspires you?
I’ve done a lot of workshops recently, and I’ve been speaking to a range of different people who have tonnes of ideas on how to make public services work better for people, which gives me loads of energy.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I’d love to be able to teleport so I could go and see my family whenever I wanted. They live in west Wales and Hertfordshire, so it can take a while to get to them.
What’s one thing you wish you’d known when you were younger?
You should keep consistent with your exercise because it gets harder as you get older!
Who’d play you in a biopic of your life?
I had to put this into a celebrity look-alike generator. I’m going to say Vanessa Hudgens!
If you had a magic wand, what’s the one thing you’d fix?
Poor access to – and use of – good quality food. I love to cook and I wish that everyone could have great ingredients and the time to make nutritious and tasty meals.
What’s your favourite place in the Liverpool City Region?
Everyone else has said lovely outdoor spaces, which I do love, but I think Liverpool city centre’s restaurants and bars are amazing. My favourite places have to be Ropes and Twines on Bold Street and Queens Bistro, which is very conveniently next to our office!
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you want to tick off this year?
I’m not really a bucket list kinda person!
What’s a skill you’re working on mastering?
I’m trying to get better at making things look nicer using Canva so Sophie Kervin doesn’t always have to bail me out.
What are you most excited about in life right now?
I’ve got quite a few nice trips planned to York, Florence and Porto so I’m looking forward to having some nice time away.
