Any day of the week, Heather will be deep in the weeds of contracts, untangling a calendar that has three essential meetings at the same time or making a new member of the team feel right at home. It’s human work, the kind that doesn’t show up on the annual accounts but absolutely shows up in Capacity’s culture. Read on to find out more about Heather and her organisational superpowers.
Tell us a little bit about your job in Capacity’s Operations team.
It’s a bit of everything! (Editor’s note: completely true but a spectacular understatement). It’s our job to keep things running smoothly so the team has what they need to deliver great work – for me, this can be contracts, IT systems, office management, events, HR admin – you name it!
It’s my job (and Lisa’s) to make sure Capacity doesn’t just function well but actually is a place people want to be and do their best work.
What does a typical day look like (we know that probably isn’t a thing!)?
Every day is different, but it starts with checking the inboxes I look after for any urgent to-dos.
Recently, I’ve been busy with our recruitment process and the induction of a new team member (getting them set up on their laptop, giving them a tour around the office etc). I’ve also spent time working with our IT provider, moving a domain from one 365 tenant to another with the aim of making it easier for our team to work across/with our different ventures.
Sometimes I’ll be booking travel for our team, sometimes onboarding a new associate, sometimes ordering lunch for our ‘all in’ days.
What’s one project or moment that’s made you think, ‘This is why I love working here’?
When new people start a new job, it can be really exciting but stressful. ‘Where is everything? Have I made the right decision?’
At Capacity, helping new people settle in is made so much easier by how friendly and caring my colleagues are. It’s lovely when I check in with them and get to hear how great the team is from a fresh set of eyes.
If you could describe the culture at Capacity for a future teammate, what would it be (in 3 words)?
Three words, really? Capacity is somewhere where the team really show up for each other. OK, I’ll go for supportive, inspiring, resilient.
