We like to start with the basics. So, can you tell us about how you came to join the Capacity team?
I joined Capacity as part of the 3ni (think evidence-led, people-first community building) team just 4 weeks ago!
3ni does the kind of work I’d always wanted to, so I’m chuffed to bits to be part of it. Before that, I’d spent time in various research roles in the private sector, most recently working in market research for Ipsos UK.
What are you most looking forward to in your role?
It sounds obvious, but impact. In my role, that means using lots of data to help allocate money more proportionately to the needs of deprived neighbourhoods that also lack a strong community.
I’m particularly excited about the community-led regeneration work – for the people, by the people. I’m sure I’m going to meet some really inspiring unsung heroes.
Okay, now for some rapid-fire questions. What three words best describe you?
Chatty, enthusiastic and compassionate (one tries!).
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t panic (it’s slowly sinking in).
What inspires you?
Meeting proper ‘doers’ fighting hard for important changes.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Being perfectly functional on 2 hours sleep… you’d never feel tired again.
What’s one thing you wish you’d known when you were younger?
Mindfulness meditation.
Who’d play you in a biopic of your life?
I’m told I look like Michael Cera and more rarely like Andy Murray, sans the muscle. I’ll go for Michael Cera, because I love him in Juno.
If you had a magic wand, what’s the one thing you’d fix?
Oof…ok, well aside from saving the world and all that jazz, I’d be inclined to give my dog the ability to speak.
What’s your favourite place in the Liverpool City Region?
Don’t hate me, but I haven’t visited yet!
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you want to tick off this year?
Visiting Liverpool – I’ve got my first trip in the calendar to meet the Capacity gang next month!
What’s a skill you’re working on mastering?
Meditation. Eight years in, and it’s still really challenging to sit and be present, or to accept difficult things.
What are you most excited about in life right now?
Learning new skills and becoming more capable, I suppose. Here’s hoping!
